On May 26, the reporter learned from the Panzhihua Iron and Steel Research Institute that Panzhihua's "Panzhihua titanium concentrate pre-reduction smelting titanium slag technology research" recently passed the appraisal organized by the Provincial Department of Science and Technology. The appraisal committee believes that the new technology will significantly reduce the smelting power consumption, significantly increase the production capacity of titanium slag and recovery rate of titanium, and it will rank the leading domestic level overall.

The Panzhihua region is rich in titanium resources. The output of titanium concentrates accounts for about 67% of the country's total production. It is mainly used for the production of titanium dioxide, and the percentage of deep processing titanium slag is low. With the development of China's high-end titanium industry, the titanium slag market gap has widened and imports have increased year by year. How to take advantage of Panzhihua's titanium resources and provide raw material protection for the development of China's titanium industry has become a problem that needs to be solved in the domestic metallurgical industry.

In recent years, Pangang has mastered the technology of smelting titanium slag with Panzhihua titanium concentrate through a series of technical breakthroughs. However, there are serious foam slags, high smelting power consumption, and difficult to control smelting conditions during the production process, resulting in Panzhihua titanium refining. The overall technical and economic indicators of titanium slag from ore smelting are poor.

To this end, Panzhihua Iron & Steel established the "Panzhihua titanium concentrate pre-reduction smelting titanium slag technology research project" project group in 2011 to carry out technical research on the pre-reduction of titanium concentrate metallization pellets and metallized pellet smelting titanium slag technology research.
