Japan's ethylene output increased 15% in July 2014

The Ministry of Industry and Trade released the latest report, said that in July the country's total ethylene output was 553,400 tons, an increase of 14.6% over June of this year, an increase of 2.1% over the same period last year.

It is reported that the substantial increase in monthly output is mainly due to the restart of two large ethylene crackers. In the past few months, these two production plants have been in the parking maintenance period.

At the end of June, a cracker with a capacity of 700,000 tons per year completed the shutdown and overhaul of the Jingye Ethylene Company of Japan.

In early July, Mitsubishi Chemical's No. 2 ethylene cracker in the Kashima region was officially restarted. The plant has an ethylene capacity of 526,000 tons/year and was shut down for maintenance in early May this year.

Market analysts pointed out that in August, Japan's ethylene production is expected to increase further. Because in mid-August, another large-scale ethylene cracker in the country is about to complete the shutdown maintenance task. At present, Mitsui Chemicals Japan has restarted its ethylene production facility in Sakai. The plant has a capacity of 500,000 tons/year and entered the shutdown maintenance period on June 20 this year.
